On November 30th, 2023, Cabras Marine Corporation (CMC) recognized twenty six (26) Apprentices who recently completed the 6th and 7th installments of the Ship Repair Boot Camp prepared in partnership with the Guam Community College (GCC). All Apprentices who completed the 12-week program were hired by CMC and will continue their journey to Apprenticeship and eventually Journeyman/Journeywoman with CMC as they earn while the learn in the various skilled trades that they choose.
This 12-week Ship Repair Boot Camp Program is funded by Guam’s Department of Labor (GDOL) and GCC in an effort to help grow Guam’s local workforce. CMC is a proud and dedicated participant of this program who firmly believes in the power of developing the skills and capabilities of our local community while offering locals rewarding and fulfilling careers in an industry that is vital to Guam’s economy.
CMC was fortunate to have Mr. Tom Kiss (Ship Director for the Military Sealift Command) offer words of encouragement to our Apprentices as the Keynote Speaker along with the Honorable Lourdes Leon Guerrero (Maga’håga; Governor of Guam), Honorable Amanda Shelton (Senator and Chairperson of Committee on Maritime Transportation), and Dave Dell’Isola (GDOL Director) in attendance. CMC also had two (2) female apprentices take the stage to speak and share their personal experience with the Program and how it has benefited each of them in their careers and personal life.
