Cabras Marine Corporation (CMC) welcomed the Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine USS Springfield into Naval Base Guam on March 21st, 2022. The fast-attack submarine USS Springfield and its 150 sailors arrived on Guam after a homeport change from Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii. The USS Springfield is capable of supporting various missions, including anti-submarine warfare, anti-ship warfare, strike warfare, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance. The move is part of the Navy’s plan to have five fast-attack submarines stationed here by the end of 2022. In December, another fast-attack submarine, the USS Jefferson City, was welcomed by CMC after also changing its homeport from Pearl Harbor. The move highlights Guam’s strategic importance to the United States and its allies in a region where tensions are high and threats abound.
