Cabras Marine Corporation (CMC) proudly hosted the official kickoff ceremony for its highly anticipated Mentor-Protege Program – the first one for Guam and the first for Military Sealift Command. This event marked the beginning of a 3-year initiative designed to foster professional growth, leadership, and collaboration between experienced mentor companies and emerging protégé companies.
CMC was honored as a mentor in this program and will be providing guidance to protégé company Rhino Linings Guam (RLG), helping them learn and develop further with the goal of becoming a Prime Contractor on federal contracts. The ceremony gave the opportunity to bring together leadership of CMC and RLG along with key stakeholders that included local dignitaries, the Department of the Navy (DON) and Military Sealift Command (MSC). The event also featured inspiring speeches including remarks from the Governor of Guam, Honorable Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero, CMC CEO & Owner Mrs. Terry M. Watkins, Director of Contracts, MSC Captain John Duenas, RLG Managing Partner Dylan Byerly, and DON Office of Small Business Programs Director, Arviece Washington. They discussed the importance this program will have towards enhancing the capabilities within the ship repair industry in Guam while also helping local small businesses alike lift each other up.
Within this Mentor Protégé Program, a federal program under DOD, mentor companies provide developmental assistance to protégé companies in aspects to include business management/corporate instruction, proposal development, contract, human resources, financial, and facilities management to ensure that they can collectively provide high quality service to support clients.
The event was held at the Alpha Pier Polaris Point, where the USS Frank Cable is docked and currently the present training grounds for CMC and RLG.
